Our Mission

Covid Wire's mission is to ensure every community has access to trustworthy local news and information to stay informed and make critical decisions.

While the Coronavirus pandemic is global, its impact is felt locally. Covid Wire is a news aggregator focused on delivering localized, accurate, actionable, and up-to-date information around COVID-19. By driving readership and through donations, we aim to support local news organizations.

How it works

Covid Wire combines algorithmic and human curation, cross-referencing content from municipal government, local news outlets and research institutions, to create one simple feed.

Why we launched Covid Wire

We are a growing team of 16 journalists, editors, engineers, designers and builders. Each of us was frustrated by the challenges of navigating the COVID-19 information landscape and decided to act. We come from different parts of the country, bringing unique lenses and expertise. We all volunteer our time, doing this for our friends, our families — and you.

How you can get involved

If you're interested in any of the following roles, email us with the title: "Covid Wire Volunteer — [role name]" at [email protected] and [email protected] and give us a quick rundown of the skills you’d like to contribute. Due to an influx of interest, we may not be able to reach back out to everyone.

Engineer: Those with NLP and ML experience, or experience managing teams.

Research and grant writing: Help us find money to pay for website costs. There are funds with emergency initiatives to finance initiatives like ours and we’d like you to help us link up with those available resources.

Moderator and analyst: Our aggregation of sources comes from reputable sites. We need your help to determine which news sites, twitter accounts, or government resources are reputable and screen articles before they go out to the news feed
